ONLINE THERAPY & VIRTUAL THERAPY FOR WOMEN IN MINNESOTA
Living outside the Twin Cities shouldn’t mean your options for finding the right therapist are limited.
Redbird Wellness offers online therapy and virtual therapy for adult women throughout Minnesota, so you can work with a therapist who fits what you’re actually looking for without needing to live anywhere near our Hopkins office (but it’s a cute city if you ever want somewhere new to explore).
Our therapy services are specifically focused on women navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, hyper-independence, overfunctioning, and the patterns that often come with spending a lot of your life being the person who handles everything.
You might be successful, capable, and doing a pretty convincing job of looking like you have your it all together. Meanwhile, you're anxious all the time, completely exhausted, struggling in your relationships, or realizing that being fiercely independent has made it really difficult to let anyone show up for you.
You don't have to live in Hopkins, or even in the Twin Cities to work on any of that with support.
Virtual therapy makes that possible from wherever you live in Minnesota.
ONLINE THERAPY THROUGHOUT MINNESOTA
Redbird Wellness is physically located in Hopkins, Minnesota, where we offer in-person therapy. But online therapy allows us to work with adult women across the state of Minnesota.
That can make a significant difference when the therapist who feels like the right fit happens to be an hour, three hours, or half a state away.
It can also make therapy considerably easier to fit into real life.
Instead of factoring an additional commute into your appointment, you can log into your session from a private space at home or another appropriate location. When your session ends, you don't have to immediately get in the car and navigate traffic while still thinking about everything you just unpacked.
For women balancing careers, relationships, families, responsibilities, and approximately 47 things running through their brains at any given moment, removing the commute can make consistently showing up for therapy much more manageable.
And if you live outside the Twin Cities, virtual therapy means geography doesn't have to be the deciding factor in choosing your therapist.
ONLINE THERAPY FOR WOMEN WHO ARE USED TO HANDLING EVERYTHING
Many of the women we work with are incredibly capable, and incredibly tired.
You may be the person everyone relies on while finding it surprisingly difficult to rely on anyone yourself. You handle problems, anticipate other people's needs, take on more than your share, and keep functioning even when you're overwhelmed.
Maybe anxiety has you constantly thinking ahead. Maybe depression has made you feel disconnected from a life you're still successfully keeping up with. Maybe trauma has influenced the way you approach relationships, trust, control, or vulnerability.
Or maybe you're beginning to recognize that your hyper-independence and overfunctioning aren't just your personality after all.
Online therapy gives you space to understand those patterns without trying to take away the independence, ambition, or competence that you genuinely value.
We can look at where those parts of you are serving you, where they're costing you, and where you might want more choice.
WHAT CAN WE WORK ON IN VIRTUAL THERAPY?
Virtual therapy can address the same mental health concerns and patterns we work with during in-person counseling.
Our online therapy services are focused on adult women who may be experiencing:
- Anxiety and chronic overthinking
- Depression
- Trauma and difficult past experiences
- Hyper-independence
- Overfunctioning
- Perfectionism
- People-pleasing
- Difficulty setting or maintaining boundaries
- Difficulty trusting or depending on others
- Feeling responsible for other people's emotions
- Relationship patterns that continue repeating
- Burnout and emotional exhaustion
- Feeling like you always have to be the strong one
You don't need to check every box on this list to belong here.
Your life also doesn't need to be falling apart before therapy makes sense. In fact, plenty of women start therapy while continuing to function remarkably well in their everyday lives.
Sometimes you're just tired of functioning being the standard you're using to determine whether you're actually okay.
HOW DOES ONLINE THERAPY WORK?
Online therapy is pretty straight forward.
Instead of coming into our Hopkins office, you'll meet with your therapist through a secure virtual platform. You'll need a device with a camera and microphone, reliable internet access, and a private place where you can comfortably talk.
The therapy itself doesn't suddenly become a completely different service because there's a screen between us.
Your virtual sessions can still involve talking through what's happening now, recognizing patterns, exploring relationships and past experiences, developing different ways of responding, processing trauma, and doing the deeper work that brought you to therapy in the first place.
Depending on your individual needs, therapy may incorporate approaches such as EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Bowenian Therapy, and other systemic approaches. Yes, these all work equally as well virtually as they do in person.
The approach isn't determined by whether you're sitting in our office or sitting on your couch. It's determined by what we're working on and what makes sense for you.
CAN EMDR THERAPY BE DONE VIRTUALLY?
Yes, EMDR therapy can be provided virtually when it is clinically appropriate for the individual client.
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is an evidence-based therapy commonly used for trauma and distressing experiences that continue to affect how someone feels or responds in the present.
During virtual EMDR, bilateral stimulation can be adapted for an online setting rather than requiring you to physically be in the therapist's office using equipment.
As with in-person EMDR, whether and when we use it depends on your individual history, needs, readiness, and treatment goals. EMDR isn't automatically the right approach for every person or every session, but doing it virtually doesn’t change those factors.
If you'd like to understand the treatment itself in more depth, you can learn more on our Counseling & EMDR Therapy page.
IS VIRTUAL THERAPY AS EFFECTIVE AS IN-PERSON THERAPY?
For many mental health concerns, research has found that psychotherapy delivered through telehealth can produce outcomes comparable to face-to-face therapy.
That doesn't mean every person will prefer virtual therapy.
Some women love being physically in a therapy office and having that separation from the rest of their day. Others are much more comfortable talking from their own environment. Some choose virtual therapy because it's simply the most realistic way to consistently attend appointments.
What matters is whether online therapy is appropriate for your needs and whether you can participate from a private environment where you're able to engage in the work. There’s not a right or wrong way to do therapy. Just your preference and what works for you.
DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN HOPKINS FOR VIRTUAL THERAPY?
No. You do not need to live in Hopkins or the Twin Cities to receive online therapy through Redbird Wellness just in the state of Minnesota.
Our physical office is located in Hopkins, Minnesota, but virtual therapy is available to adult women throughout the state of Minnesota.
That means you can live elsewhere in the Twin Cities metro, in greater Minnesota, or hours away from our physical office and still access therapy virtually.
You do, however, need to be physically located in Minnesota at the time of your therapy appointment for Brooke to provide your therapy services under her Minnesota license.
It's where you are during your appointment, not simply your permanent home address that determines whether a Minnesota-licensed therapist can provide care.
WHAT DO I NEED FOR A VIRTUAL THERAPY APPOINTMENT?
You don't need an elaborate home office or a Pinterest-worthy therapy corner.
You do need reliable internet, a device with a camera and microphone (which can be your phone), and enough privacy to talk openly without spending your entire appointment wondering who can hear you.
Headphones can be helpful if you share your home with other people. A closed door, white noise outside the room, or scheduling your appointment for a time when you have more privacy can also make virtual sessions more comfortable but not always required.
The goal is simply to create enough privacy and uninterrupted time that the hour can genuinely be yours.
IS ONLINE THERAPY A GOOD FIT FOR ME?
Virtual therapy can be a great option if convenience, location, transportation, work demands, or simply personal preference make in-person appointments more difficult.
It can be especially helpful if you've found a therapist whose specialty feels right for you but their physical office isn't nearby.
Online therapy may not be appropriate for every situation, however. Your individual needs, current symptoms, safety, privacy, and ability to participate effectively through telehealth all matter when determining whether virtual care is a good fit.
If you're unsure, you don't have to figure that out before reaching out. We can talk about whether online therapy makes sense for what you're looking for.
YOUR ONLINE THERAPIST
Brooke Halliday is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and Certified EMDR Therapist with more than 10 years of experience helping people heal from trauma.
Brooke specializes in working with Millennial and Gen Z women navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, hyper-independence, overfunctioning, and the relationship patterns that can develop alongside them.
Her work heavily draws from EMDR when conceptualizing cases while also incorporating well-researched approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Bowenian Therapy, and other systemic approaches.
There isn't one “right” approach to therapy. What matters is finding the approach that works for the actual person sitting on the other side of the screen.
