Online & Virtual Therapy for Women

Finding a therapist who actually understands what you're dealing with can be challenging enough without adding location, commute times, and an already-packed schedule into the equation.

Online therapy gives you the opportunity to work with a therapist who specializes in what you're experiencing, even when their physical office isn't anywhere near you.

At Redbird Wellness, we provide virtual therapy for adult women navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, hyper-independence, overfunctioning, and the relationship patterns that can develop when you've spent much of your life being the person who handles everything.

Whether you're working through experiences from your past or trying to understand why certain patterns keep showing up in your present, virtual therapy offers a way to do that work without adding another drive across town to your calendar.

Brooke Halliday, LPCC, provides online therapy to eligible clients physically located in Minnesota and South Carolina.

Online Therapy for Women Who Are Used to Handling Everything

Some of the women we work with are incredibly capable and incredibly tired.

You're the person people turn to when something needs to get done. You're good at anticipating problems, managing responsibilities, and figuring things out independently. From the outside, things might look pretty good.

Meanwhile, you might be constantly anxious, struggling to relax, feeling disconnected in your relationships, or wondering why asking for help feels so much harder than handling everything yourself.

Maybe you've spent years believing your independence is simply part of your personality, only to realize that some of those habits developed because relying on other people didn't always feel like an option.

Therapy isn't about taking away the independence, ambition, or competence you genuinely value. It's about understanding how those patterns developed and whether they're still working for you.

What Can We Work on in Virtual Therapy?

Online therapy can address many of the same concerns that bring people into an in-person counseling office.

At Redbird Wellness, our work with adult women commonly includes:

  • Anxiety and chronic overthinking
  • Depression and emotional disconnection
  • Trauma and difficult past experiences
  • Hyper-independence and overfunctioning
  • Perfectionism and people-pleasing
  • Difficulty setting or maintaining boundaries
  • Challenges with trust and vulnerability
  • Feeling responsible for other people's emotions
  • Repeating relationship patterns
  • Burnout and emotional exhaustion

You don't have to relate to every item on that list and your life doesn't need to be falling apart before therapy makes sense.

Sometimes you're managing your responsibilities just fine, but you're starting to question how much it's costing you to keep everything running.

If you'd like to explore these concerns further, you can learn more about our anxiety therapy, depression therapy, and trauma therapy and EMDR services.

How Does Online Therapy Work?

Online therapy is pretty straightforward.

Instead of visiting our physical office, you'll meet with your therapist through a secure virtual platform. You'll need a device with a camera and microphone, reliable internet access, and somewhere private enough to talk comfortably.

The therapy itself doesn't suddenly become a completely different service because there's a screen between you and your therapist.

Sessions can still involve exploring past experiences, identifying relationship patterns, understanding emotional responses, processing trauma, and developing healthier ways of navigating situations that have been difficult.

Depending on your needs, treatment may incorporate approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Bowenian Therapy, and other systemic approaches.

The goal is to choose an approach based on your individual needs rather than assuming the same treatment works for everyone.

Can EMDR Therapy Be Done Virtually?

Yes. EMDR therapy can be provided virtually when it's clinically appropriate for the individual client.

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is an evidence-based treatment commonly used to address trauma and distressing experiences that continue affecting how someone feels, thinks, or responds in the present.

During online EMDR therapy, bilateral stimulation can be adapted for a virtual setting. Your therapist will help determine which methods are appropriate and whether the virtual format is a good fit for your treatment.

As with in-person EMDR, the process depends on your history, readiness, treatment goals, and individual needs.

You can learn more about this approach on our Trauma Therapy and EMDR page.

Is Virtual Therapy as Effective as In-Person Therapy?

For many mental health concerns, research has found that psychotherapy delivered through telehealth can produce outcomes comparable to traditional in-person therapy.

That doesn't mean everyone will prefer the same format.

Some people appreciate having a separate physical space dedicated to therapy. Others feel more comfortable opening up from home. And for women balancing work, family, relationships, and 47 things running through their brains at any given moment, removing the commute can make attending appointments much more manageable.

What matters is whether virtual therapy is appropriate for your needs and whether you can participate in an environment where you feel comfortable engaging in the work.

What Do I Need for a Virtual Therapy Appointment?

You don't need an elaborate home office or a Pinterest-worthy therapy corner.

A phone, tablet, or computer with a working camera and microphone, reliable internet, and a private place to talk are the essentials.

If you share your home with other people, headphones, a closed door, or some background white noise may help create more privacy.

You'll also want to choose a location where you can give your appointment your attention without worrying about interruptions or other people overhearing sensitive conversations.

Is Online Therapy a Good Fit for Me?

Virtual therapy can be especially helpful when transportation, location, work schedules, or personal preference make in-person appointments difficult.

It can also make specialized treatment more accessible when the therapist you're interested in working with doesn't practice near your home.

However, online therapy isn't necessarily appropriate for every situation. Your symptoms, safety, privacy, treatment needs, and ability to participate effectively through telehealth all matter.

If you're unsure whether virtual counseling makes sense for you, we can discuss that before moving forward.
